Questions & Answers

There's a lot of research that goes into finding a great photographer, and can feel riskier when it's your wedding! I looked into both the questions I have been asked and questions you should ask a potential photographer, and provided you with the answers. You can always reach out with further questions. From here, you decide if I am a great fit. Go ahead and explore the questions below.

  • I will typically drive or fly anywhere within the United States. For weddings, I will pay up to $400 for travel fees. Additional costs are charged to the client. I currently don’t book outside the United States.

For elopements and engagements, all travel fees are covered by the client.

  • For weddings, the amount to retain my services is $500. The remainder of the amount can be paid up to a week prior to your wedding day.

  • I have done photography professionally for five years. I have worked as a secondary shooter, a solo wedding photographer, and as a head photographer with a second shooter.

  • Things happen. If I get sick, I will work with you to find a new photographer. Typically, I recommend a second shooter for this reason.

If you need to cancel your wedding, please let me know 45 days prior to the wedding so I can adjust travel plans or even book another session. Otherwise, you’ll lose your retainer fee. If there are unforeseen circumstances, contact me, and let’s work through that together!

  • Having a second shooter is invaluable. You will have my team in two places at once, not worrying about missing a thing! It’s also incredibly helpful in case I get sick, the other can take over so you are not left feeling abandoned.

I pay out of pocket for the second shooter.

  • Typically, couples choose to get married where it is convenient for everyone to get to. However, some couples want additional wedding photos standing in the view of the mountains, canyons, or streams.

If you are willing to hike and get dressed up again on a different day, it is an extra $650 for those amazing photos! I highly recommend doing this for those unique shots!

  • A typical day is 12 hours long, and I prefer working with a second shooter. We each go to the different locations where the bride and groom are getting ready.

Next, the second shooter and I go to the ceremony location ahead of you to grab photos of where you will be getting married.

We offer first-look photos if the couple decides to do this.

We will then photograph the ceremony, the bridal party, the family, the couple, the attendees, and the reception.

  • Of course! Maybe you are having a small, intimate wedding. Maybe you don’t want pictures of you getting ready, or you aren’t having a reception!

Whatever the case, I’m more than happy to work with you on the price that fits best for your wedding.

  • I will make sure you and I have time to talk prior to your big day. Upon booking, I send a questionnaire for you to fill out. This helps me prepare for your wedding.

If you have a wedding planner, then we all will set up a call to run through the day prior so we all are on the same schedule. If you don’t have a wedding planner, you and I will call to set up a schedule.

This is important. I understand preparing for this day is a lot of work, and scheduling out time for photos seems pointless, right? However, on your big day, collecting family, bridesmaids, and groomsmen for photos is like herding cats. They will be tired, hungry, and eager to hit on that cute guy or girl standing at the bar.

You are in charge that day and it’s helpful to communicate what to expect.

  • No worries! For engagements and photoshoots, I send you a style guide to help you explore ideas and how to prepare for your shoot.

For weddings, it is up to you to decide the theme of the wedding. This is best explored with your wedding planner and/or your maid of honor, as well as your husband-to-be, if he wants to collaborate.

  • I will give you a full digital library, sorted by the day’s events so that it is digestible and comprehensive. You can choose to download your full album or single photos. You also can purchase printable images right from the store, or I can provide you a list of my preferred print vendors.

  • Our relationship doesn’t start and stop on the day we take photos. Prior to the photoshoot, we work together to go over what makes your relationship special, find a location, or scout out your selected location.

Besides the booking, I will communicate with you to understand what it is you are looking for. Then comes the day of the photos, where I get amazing pictures of you.

Following our session, I sort through photos, select the top picks, edit all those photos (clean up any cuts, misplaced bags, or unwanted planes flying above you), organize, and send the final images to you.

Packages can be customized so please reach out.

  • Moody tones with playful and candid snaps.

I like capturing emotion and conveying it through your photos. I use a couple of different posing techniques to bring out your natural affection toward each other, some posing for beautiful shots, and other posing to showcase the location you are in.

  • Of course you can! Send me inspiration shots and I can let you know if I’m able to achieve that!

  • I typically try to send a couple of sneak peeks within the first 1-2 days, as I understand you are eager to share your day!

For the rest of the album, the waiting period is 2–4 weeks and I do not do rush orders. You may get them sooner or later, but if it is later, I will make sure you know so you aren’t feeling like I disappeared.

The waiting period is long because there are so many photos to sort through! I select the best photos to share with you. On average, you’ll receive 300-500 images from your big day.

  • I recommend a minimum of 3 months. If you have a last minute need for a photographer, it will be an additional $500 as long as the date on my schedule is available!

  • I work with all types of people and communities. Whatever your ethnicity, religion, and LGBTQ+ status, you are welcome.

My request is that you are kind, approachable, and inclusive.

  • The terms are noted in your contract for your protection as well as mine. You want to ensure your investment is well spent, and I want to be paid for my time and work.

I go over the contract with you so that there are no surprises and no guessing. You are always welcome to reach out for further questions.

  • I do not do film or drone footage at this time.

  • I get it! I also feel awkward in front of a camera. In fact, many people do. The first few minutes are uncomfortable, but eventually, you become less intimidated by the camera and begin to trust that I know how to work with you and your unique features.

    You are beautiful. Flaunt it.

  • Kids make me so happy! They are unafraid of being who they are. Kids are very inquisitive, and there is no guessing their emotions.

My recommendation is to make sure they are fed before coming to the shoot and make sure they have something to look forward to after.

I also recommend bringing an activity just in case your kids get bored. Prepare to get a little dirty. Children will be more involved if it’s less posing and more playing. Think piggyback rides, tickling and bubble blowing.

Tip: If you want to get on the ground with your kids but don’t want to dirty your clothes, bring a light or neutral-colored blanket.

Be ready to change directions. Due to children’s ever-changing moods, you may not get the photoshoot you expect. I do my best to work with shy children, but sometimes they simply do not want their pictures taken.

Parents, listen to your kids. If they don’t want their pictures taken, that’s okay! We’ll get what we can with your kiddos, and make it more about you.

  • I love furry and fluffy animals! If you know your animals will be hard to control and you really want to photograph your pet, I recommend working with a local trainer prior to the shoot, or bringing a friend who is good with your dog so you can get some shots with your dog, and your friend can entertain the dog during shots when we don’t use him/her.

If your dog gets excited around new people and it takes time for them to calm down, let’s meet a little early so it doesn’t eat into your session. Let your dog have time to get familiar with me.

  • I don’t offer discounts, but I do offer customized packages. Let’s work together to find a budget that works for you and doesn’t take advantage of my time!

  • You may be looking to buy a session for your children, your best friends, or your parents, or you want to gift the bride and groom a photographer for their wedding day.

There are so many reasons to gift a session, and I offer gift cards for that very reason!

Final Thoughts

Embrace your story.

Investing in any kind of photoshoot is for you and your future. You’ll want to look back to moments like today and remember them and share them with the many people in your future. Be proud of right now, and take those pictures with your best friends, with your partner, of your “I do’s,” and your family that comes after.
